The project

Project details
• Energy stored in battery containers.
• Connection to the existing NSW transmission network via overhead line.
• Storage area, internal access tracks, on-site parking, fire water, security fencing, lighting and vegetation.
Location
The project is located approximately 25km to the east of the township of Taralga in the upper Lachlan Shire Council. A key point in the NSW energy system. The project is approximatley 13ha in size and connects to the exisiting Bannaby 500kV substation.
Access
Site access will be provided via a widned entrance from Hanworth Road, designed to allow project traffic to enter and exit in a safe manner.
Operations
The project will be remotely operated for at least 30 years (24/7, 365 days of the year) with regular and routine maintenance performed on site. Once construction is complete, temporary construction and laydown areas will be rehabilitated.
Project status
Community and enagmenet with local landowners began in 2024. Currently the project team is preparing the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) which will assess any potential impacts from the project.
Once completed, the EIS will be submitted and displayed to allow for review and determination.
Site selection
Proximity
The location of the project was selected for its proximity to the existing 500KV high-voltage transmission network. Proposed to connect via a short overhead line, the project sits at a key location in the NSW energy system.
Regional profile
The project is positioned between the South West Renewable Energy Zone and the Newcastle and Sydney's metropolitan demand centers .The site's location will assist with the efficient energy transfer between generation and consumption centres.
Site characteristics
The project is located on an exisiting grazing property which will be mainatained during construction and operations.
Why BESS
Large-scale battery systems contribute to the stability and reliability of our changing energy system. The energy stored in batteries is able to be used quickly and respond to changing conditions.
Typically, battery systems charge during the day when solar energy is plentiful and release the stored energy back into the grid at night.
Balancing supply and demand
Battery systems help bridge the distance between where the electricity is generated and where it is needed most. By storing excess generation and delivering power during peak periods, batteries help optimise the flow of electricity across the national energy network.
Enhancing energy security
Battery systems can adapt to changing energy network conditions within milliseconds which assists to provide a more stable and reliable system.
Supporting a diverse system
The way in which our electricity is generated and consumed is changing. Batteries are an essential part of a more diverse and resilient system that is able to respond to change.

Battery storage supports the reliability and stability of the New South Wales power system, helping ensure a consistent supply of electricity for homes, businesses, and communities.
Integrated Ecological Design
Enhanced Biodiversity Design
Building on detailed ecological surveys, our design incorporates features specifically for local wildlife, including water features, nesting boxes, and indigenous wildflower meadows. These enhancements support native species while working in harmony with the site's existing pastoral character.
Natural Site Screening
The site's natural topography and existing vegetation provide effective visual integration within the pastoral landscape. Additional native planting will further enhance the natural screening, particularly along Hanworth Road, minimising visual impact on the surrounding area.
Operational Excellence
Advanced remote monitoring systems ensure optimal performance with minimal physical presence. The facility operates with carefully monitored noise controls, with cooling systems designed to meet appropriate standards and guidelines. Monthly maintenance visits maximise operational efficiency while maintaining minimal local impact.
Stakeholder information
Neighbour and Community Benefits
The project is committed to sharing benefits of the project with our neighbours and wider communities. Some of the benefits will be delivered before and during construction in recognition that construction will impact neighbours and the local community most often.
Suppliers, Industry and First Nations
The development, construction and operation of the projectrequires a workforce that is appropriately located and skilled to deliver theproject safely and efficiently.
